Join Our Pack! On a daily basis, we have new foster dogs and cats coming into the system that need medical care, such as insulin, heart meds, allergy meds etc. Won't you be part of the pack and help with a monthly donation?
Whitey needs a caretaker or foster!
Won't you consider helping him get a new start?
2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!

UPDATE3/14/15 - Whitey lost his previous foster home and spent some time in boarding. He has been with me for about a month now and he is just a sweetheart. If he can find a lap to sit on, he is in paradise! If you are looking for a loving companion, a lap dog and a snuggle buddy Whitey is your guy. Plus he is housebroken, follows commands, walks great on a leash and doesn’t chew. That said, he is a Chihuahua which means that he is a great alarm system. He takes a few minutes to warm up to strangers but settles down quickly. He will do best in a home without small children, but will be fine with older calmer kids. He does adjust to other dogs but in his dream home he is king of the castle and gets all of the human attention for himself. If you or anyone you know is looking for a sweet companion that won’t leave your side, please fill out an application for King Whitey…he is an awesome dog who is looking for his own special person to love and protect. Summary from Whiteys first foster home: Whitey is an amazing little guy who can go from being the bouncing bundle of energy to the best snuggle buddy! He loves to play and can entertain himself with his toys too! Housetraining has been successful. That being said, like many small dogs, you do have to watch him and take him out fairly frequently. He rarely has an accident in the house, and when he does, it's my fault for not getting him outside. He is a great eater and has not shown any food aggression. He is crate trained and easily goes in his crate when you tell him it's time for bed. At first meeting and for a day or two, he can be growly at new dogs, but once he's been around them for a little bit, he settles in and plays well. Cats strike his interest and he will chase them if they run, but a quick No or Leave It, stops him. One of my cats is more like a dog and Whitey and him play with each other. Older, respectful children would be ok. Where ever I go, Whitey goes... Like many Chihuahua's :) Whitey will need a fenced in yard or someone who is willing to keep him on a leash at all times outside of a yard. Since I have had the pleasure of fostering this little guy, he has made me so proud. He deserves a family to call his own! When a chihuahua chooses you as their person... you feel like the most special person in the world when they stare at you with those beautiful squinty eyes. The amount of love they show in their eyes will warm your heart!
More about Whitey
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Requires a yard
Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.
A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!
