Join Our Pack! On a daily basis, we have new foster dogs and cats coming into the system that need medical care, such as insulin, heart meds, allergy meds etc. Won't you be part of the pack and help with a monthly donation?
2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!

My story had a sad start. I lived with a family that didn't really value me :( They never bothered to get me spay'd so I ended up pregnant. I know I should have been more careful but what's a girl to do if her family doesn't keep her safe?! Any way I ended up giving birth one night by myself. If was REALLY scary and I was running around and 3 puppies dropped out but a 4th one was stuck halfway out and I was all alone and didnt know what to do. Then my family came home and I don't know what happened but the police came and those guys seemed to care more than my family. I heard them keep saying we have to do something before she dies! The were on their phones making calls and they called both emergency hospitals in Harrisburg and neither would help without payment :( WOW :(
Then one of the cops called his wife who is also a cop and she said "Let me call Lynn at 2nd Chance". Next thing I knew she came to the house and picked me up (with my 3 puppies), but I still had the 4th one stuck inside me. We took a drive to York and then I was at a hospital and they were very nice and took care of me, but it was very sad that my 4th puppy didn't survive.
The nice lady put me back in her car and took me to this place they call "The Ranch". It was such a nice place! The people there got us nice soft bedding and a warm room and food and water and took care of all of us until our Foster Mommy "stepped up" and took my little family in.
My foster mommy is super sweet and she takes really good care of us. She makes sure we always have baths and smell good and I'm done feeding my babies now so I get to run around the house with my foster mommies 2 dogs and it is SOOOOO fun!!!!
I want to go to a home with another playful, small dog that will love to play with me too since my foster mommy says she can't keep me because she has to save more lives like mine. I think that is really cool even though I will miss her :)
UPDATE FROM FOSTER MAMA: Harper deserves to be at a home where she will be treasured for being the awesome little dog that she is! Watching how she was with her puppies, earns her a "Mom of the Year Award"! Harper was super attentive with her puppies and spent all of her time taking care of their needs -- even when they got older. She completely trusted us to care for her babies and never showed us the least amount of aggression while doing so. She gave everthing she had to them and now that they have found new homes, she is actually relaxing a bit more and enjoying more cuddle time.
She's quite playful and loves other dogs, and when she greets us, she jumps up and down then rolls on her back with a big goofy smile that melts your heart. She can be a bit protective and barks when strangers come over but she sits down and lets them pet her once she knows we are ok with them.
We absolutely love this little dog and think she's one of the best we've ever seen! If you are looking for an obedient dog with a sweet disposition and Yoda ears, well then she's the dog for you!
Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.
A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!
