6/23/13 Tobias is loving this beautiful weather-and his brothers and sister. He's a happy camper whenever he's outside with the whole crew, playing chase or fetch with the new toys his foster mom brings home. But he loves one-on-one time with his mom too, and sometimes he sleeps on the bed with her, and two of his foster brothers. A tad crowded, perhaps, but cozy nevertheless. Tobias is off all his medications except for a thyroid supplement, and he loves his life and his foster siblings. He'd make an absolutely super duper addition to the home of some lucky adopter. Anyone who adopts Tobias will be rewarded by a lifetime of hugs and kisses, and total devotion.
5/15/13 How much happier can a guy be? Tobias is such a joy, and "play" is his middle name. Any remaining skin issues are cleared up, and he will be pill free within the next month. Tobias likes nothing more than playing with his foster brothers, even the pesky little one, and his foster sister even joins in the fun on occasion. Overall, a very happy camper, and SO ready to share his life with a loving forever family. Why not make him part of yours? You'll never be sorry.
4/12/13 Tobias is all settled in his new foster home, and has adjusted so well to his four siblings, including a pesky little brother. He just loves to run outside, and curl up on "his" loveseat for a nap afterwards. He really likes hugs and cuddles, Despite his rough start in life, he's friendly and outgoing, his tail never stops wagging, and he would make some lucky family a SUPER friend and companion. Won't you consider adopting this wonderful guy?
January Update 01/06/2013
Hello again. I rang in the New Year with some cheese and bologne and fireworks! What fun that was! I enjoyd all the excitment. What can I say, I am a party animal.
I went and saw Dr. Delany to get some more bloodwork done and I am doing great! The thyroid meds I am taking are working great and I am in good shape. I slimmed down to 65 lbs and my foster parents were told to give me a bit more food to maintain my weight around 68 lbs. More food, I can handle that! My skin has healed up nicely and my coat is shiny and soft. I have some scars left over but I was told they give me character.
Definitley loved the 2 mile hike we went on today. I am allowed to walk on a 30 foot leash and I enjoy that. I get to explore the areas we are in and I feel like I am free....but since I don't run around like crazy (like my foster siblings do, they are labs....you know what I mean),the long leash is perfect for me. But don't get me wrong, I do like a light jog with my foster dad, I am just not a runner. You miss way to much when you race around like that! I like to see the birds, the cows even the sheep I met today. Funny looking dogs, let me tell ya!
For the New Year I am hoping to meet a nice forever family that likes to stay busy. My foster family is great, but I would prefer my own people. The nice thing about me getting my own forever family is, that my awesome foster parents can rescue another dog like me....a dog that had given up all hope and trust, that was neglected and sick, almost died.....if you adopt me, you really help two dogs! How cool is that?
November Update 11/09/2012
Hello there....it's me, Tobias. I thought I share with all of you how life has been treating me over the last couple of month. I really enjoy living with my foster family, they are great! I go for walkes ever day, I get yummy treats (I do have to work for them but I don't mind) and every couple of days I get the royal spa treatment! A nice bubble bath, pedicure and ear treatment. I love it! And I don't put up a fuss at all, I am quite the Diva when it comes to the finer things in life.
I have my own doggie bed with a special blanket to make a nest, and I share the whole downstairs with my foster siblings when my foster parents are at work. They do provide me with my own crate, but I prefer to hang with the other furry kids.
Every two weeks I get to see my Vet family at E-Town Animal Hospital and they get so excited when they see me! From what I gather I am doing great and the treatments are working! Today Doc said I am a changed dog and he didn't think I would look this well ever! So I am assuming that's a good thing. He took some blood (I didn't like that but I was a gentleman and didn't give them a stuggle) for some testing and in a few weeks I am going to see the dermatologist. All my sores have healed up and I take benadryl every day to make sure I don't get the itchies.
I have been down a long and windy road, but with the help of Doc and the love of my foster family I have come a long way! Every day is special to me and I am learning about the things that I had forgotten about....chew toys...they are awesome!! Antlers....I never even seen one of them things....love them.....squeaky toys....boy oh boy, I can get myself into trouble with them...lol.
Oh look at the time....It's time for my evening treat and I am eyeballing the soft doggie bed in the living room!
WOW! Can we say this poor boy deserved a better life than he's been given so far! Toby is in pretty rough shape but don't you worry.. 2nd Chance is going to do everything we can to make him whole again and feeling wonderful and loved.
I have never seen such an infestation of fleas on one dog. Even with a capstar pill the fleas were still crawling in and out of sores an hour later!
Toby was quarentined for a week at Elizabethtown Animal Hospital and given excellent care. He is now living in a foster home and absolutely adores his 3 little foster girls and his 2 foster dogs. He doesn't understand how to play with toys yet but we feel that that will come as he watches the other dogs in the home.
He sleeps a lot because of his condition but he loves his medicated baths, his nice soft bed and the love and attention he is getting from his foster family!
Please consider being a sponsor for this special guy!!
Update 09/04/2012
WOW....that's right! Toby aka Tobias is a "WOW Dog"! Who would have thought that we are getting our personal familyentertainment when we picked him up at the Vet's office! With every day he is feeling better and his personality is coming through! Toby is a great dog! He loves to go for walks and he is the perfect gentleman on the leash. He knows basic commands "sit", "go lay down", "outside" (to go potty), "house" (to come back inside). He also loves to go for rides and settles in quickly. He is great with the kids and he enjoys his foster siblings company. He is crate trained but prefers not to be crated. Right now he has "run of the playroom" and does well. He is not distructive at all and as long he has a dog bed and a blanket (he likes to make nest to lay in), he is a happy camper. Toby LOVES to be around "his" people and is never far away.
Toby loves to talk to you. If you ignore him he will get your attention and sing a little. When you play with him he will talk to you. He loves the hard ball with the flashing light and we are working on "bring it"......he has a soft mouth and is super gentle taking a treat. Toby loves getting a bath and he will just stand there for you until he gets dried off. At night he curls up on his dog bed in our bedroom and we have to wake him up in the morning to go potty.
His skin is healing up nicely and his coat is starting to grow back in. Almost all if the skin infections are healed up and he enjoys being petted and loved.
Update 09/10/2012
Toby had his 2-week follow up with Dr. D, and the doc is pleased! Toby is looking good! He gained a little bit of weight but that's ok we were told. Toby got a pedicure while we were there, he didn't care for it by didn't put up a fight either. His skin is getting better from day to day and his coat is coming in nice and soft.
Toby loves his daily walks and he has started to interact with his foster siblings. We caught him and Kori playing chase in the yard today and Toby got all excited when Kori got the zoomies and raced around like a wild dog!
And let me tell ya....that dog loves kids! We had family visiting for the weekend and they have 3 very energetic and hands on boys ages 5 and up....Toby was in heaven! He was so excited about the boys and their dad that the girls and I were all but forgotten. A family with kids, especially a boy would be so great for him!
To top the evening of we went to meet Miss Ruth and had some pictures taken. Toby was well behaved even so it was a new house with dogs and lots of other smells around him. He was his "happy go lucky" self and loved the extra attention (and treats) he received as payment for his modeling gig. Right now he laying on his bed getting ready for a nap!
Tomorrow will be a new day with new adventures!
Update 09/24/2012
I can't believe it has been anther 2 weeks already and we took Toby for another two-week check up. We had a rough weekend, Toby refused to eat! He had a very upset tummy since friday and would not even eat the rice I cooked for him! anything he did eat came right back up and by sunday it was obvious he was not feeling well and we were starting to get worried. Today was the first day that Toby was back to his normal self....and we had fun playing chase in the yard. Doctor D. took a good look at him and we think the antibiotics he has been on for so long have finally gotten the better of him! Toby lost a little weight but looks handsome and dashing at 80 pounds! His coat is growing in and his skin is almost healed up! When we came home I cooked up some turkey and rice and we made a big pot of mush, I had three noses sniffing the air next to me in the kitchen and I have a feeling there will be no issues tomorrow for breakfast with Toby. I let him taste a little and he was very excited....but, by doctors orders, we have to wait for breakfast.
We will continue with the medicated bath (Toby LOVES his spa treatment, especially being toweled down!), Doctor D. gave us some special meds to fix up Toby's tummy and we are officially off the antibiotics (keep your fingers and paws crossed we don't have to go back on!!!). Yay!
All the excitment of the evening wore Toby out and he is all curled up on his doggy bed sounds asleep....I bet ya he is dreaming about his turkey and rice breakfast!
Update 09/27/2012
Just a quick update for today. Toby is feeling better then ever! He is back to eating his regular dog food and his energy level is through the roof! He enjoyed a nice long walk this evening and the played tug-a-war with his foster siblings!
Toby is definitley getting ready for his forever family and we are hoping to find his perfect home for him for the holidays!
