Join Our Pack! On a daily basis, we have new foster dogs and cats coming into the system that need medical care, such as insulin, heart meds, allergy meds etc. Won't you be part of the pack and help with a monthly donation?
2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!

Hi, I'm Midas! A very happy-go-lucky kinda a guy. I have settled in very nicely with my foster Mom & Dad. I absolutely LOVE going on walks. I'm not so fond of the crate, but I am learning to relax inside it. I am a very mature boy, showed them how good I am and now they let me out of the crate alone for a few hours. I hope I can show them they can trust me and wont make a mess. I will let you know how that goes. One of my favorite things to do is sit by my parents side on the couch and watch Tv with them. Yes, I actually do watch what's on! I've become quite fond of baseball and the history channel. I love sitting by the window and waiting til the neighbor dog goes outside ~ I get really excited and want to go play with her. I am very relaxed when I meet new people or other dogs. I stay real quiet so I don't scare them away. I also don't jump up on people, cause I know some don't like it. But when my foster parents come home, I get so excited to see them, I can't hold back ~ I jump straight up in the air and say Hello! I am also a really good boy when I have to potty. I go to the door and give you a little whine so you know it's time to take me out. I do pee anywhere, but with pooping, I have a preference on exactly where.
I'm a pretty relaxed boy, but sometimes I get the "zoomie-zoomies" and run around like a crazy boy, chase my tail and toss up my favorite teddy bear to catch. I love my toys and won't ever destroy them. I appreciate everything that my foster parents give me, especially my treats during training. My foster Mom is trying to teach me some new stuff, like sitting, staying and leave it, which I have mastered already! I also have learned to stay at an open door and not walk out until I am told to. This is a very hard task to learn, but if I stay, I get to go on a walk so I do it very well now.
I am looking for a great family that will be my best friends, as I do my best to do the same. I will cuddle with you til the cows come home.......I will be your pillow if there isn't one close by...........I will walk nicely by your side.........I will tell you if someone is on our property...........I will sleep with you and keep you warm all night..........I like to sleep in, so I wont annoy you in the morning, unless I have to go potty, then I will sniff your face and give a gentle lick to let you know.......I will respect all the things you have in the house..........I will be very kind and gentle with the children and other dogs.........I WILL BE YOUR BESTEST FRIEND! All I ask for is love and respect in return.
Intake notes from shelter: (please read above for behavior assessment by foster family)
Midas is a 5 year old lab/shar pei mix. whose previous owners brought him into the high kill shelter because they were moving and couldn't take him along :-( Midas is a very lovable and affectionate boy. He is good on a leash, great with other dogs, cats and older children. He is house trained and well mannered. Midas will come when called, loves playing ball and is an active dog who will need plenty of exercise and walks. Not a couch potato dog. A fenced yard is required.

Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.
A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!
